Crafting a personal brand

In today’s era of multitasking and the rush to acquire multidisciplinary skillsets, sometimes the importance of building a personal brand is often overlooked. Nah, it’s not just an influencer’s mojo, it’s something that all of us acquire: it can be consciously crafted or unconsciously acquired.

Define Your Identity

The first step in building your personal brand is defining who you are and what you stand for. Reflect on your values, passions, and unique strengths. What sets you apart from others in your field? What do you want to be known for? Your personal brand should authentically reflect your personality and expertise. It can be technical, it can be your awesome people skills or simply your ability to lower the temperature in a meeting room.

Create compelling content or value

Again not something just in the influencer’s domain: challenge yourself about the compulsiveness of your content – does it deliver value beyond expectations, does it offer a perspective beyond the known or is it simply more efficient than anything produced before? The compulsiveness of your content determines the longevity of your brand.

Be authentic and consistent

Staying true to your goals and values, consistency so is the key. There are often situations where this maybe challenging but understanding the ask and working on it in a way that aligns with your goals is the best route to authenticity. More on this in another separate post.

Go beyond goals, trust the process

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Sometimes, it’s the process of doing things itself that’s enjoyable and important – this may not always be in the context of earning a living. Volunteer when you can, delight in the process of simply doing without worrying about the results. Embrace the process and enjoy the ride.
